The Great Gretna Plate is a "Chopped" style competition held in Mount Gretna, PA designed to showcase a sampling of local and regional flavors in a single, shareable dish. As described by Mount Gretna Magazine, it is typically composed as a curated plate that brings together multiple small portions of different foods—often representing a mix of savory items, sides, and occasionally a sweet component—presented as a cohesive “tasting” experience.

When approached by the Mount Gretna Magazine to create the signature logo for their upcoming event, The Great Gretna Plate, I took into consideration that the event intends to reflect the magazine’s storytelling approach—using food as a way to represent tradition, community identity, and shared experiences within Mount Gretna.

For their logo, the team behind The Great Gretna Plate, wanted something that could easily be used in the event marketing, as well as be added to event collateral, such as chef's jackets. They were interested in a simple design with bold shapes, a spot to feature the year and for the name to stand out. Taking this direction into consideration, I came up with a few options - some with more intricate details, but ultimately this logo was the winner amongst the team.
